La lesión osteopática es una tensión aponeurótica que, al nivel de una articulación, atrae la pieza ósea hacia ella y le impide desplazarse en sentido opuesto, dentro de las posibilidades fisiológicas de dicha articulación. Asistimos así al nacimiento de su vocación, sus problemáticas relaciones con los círculos artísticos venecianos, su difícil ascenso en la consideración social, su actitud ante importantes acontecimientos históricos y, sobre todo, la tarea dehacer realidad una ambiciosa obra de extraordinaria abundancia e imaginación desbordada. Por otra parte, la rememoración va profundizando en las relaciones de su prolífica familia, en especial su vínculo con Marietta, su predilecta hija ilegítima, con la que mantiene una relación tan intensa como ambigua. La Tintoretta es una mujer adelantada a su época por su independencia emocional y profesional, pero que acabará sucumbiendo a una pasión que se sublima en su propia anulación como artista y como mujer. Es el caso no solo de Marietta, sino también de Dominico, poeta frustrado y fiel heredero del taller de su padre; o de Marco, quien se niega a madurar como forma de rebeldía o de amor extremo; o de la infructuosa búsqueda de un camino propio de Zuane; o del sacrificio de sus otras cuatro hijas, ofrecidas a la Iglesia como forma de expiación.
